Realistic sculpture Leisurely Reflection
About This Work
This is a beautiful, realistic sculpture of a man reading a book. The sculpture is handmade by the sculptor, the author of this sculpture is my father, the artist Nikola Lichkov. I like that this small sculpture is a moment of intimacy, captured in metal. Seated in a massive armchair, the man rests his head on one arm, propped up on his elbow, while with the other he holds a book - and his expression is that of a man deep in reading this book. The surface of the sculpture is deliberately rough, full of tool marks that catch the warm light and give the work a sense of life; the high points shine in gold, while the concave areas hold darker shadows. His legs are casually crossed. Placed on a pale marble top next to a plain wall, the contrast makes the sculpture seem intimate and like an art object that you can't walk past without noticing. This is a sculpture that rewards looking: the more you look, the more life you see .
